Finally “finished” my independent study! This is what I’ll be turning in although I’m sure I’ll be revisiting a bit over the break to clean stuff up.
I spent the summer researching the history of theater and divvying up what eras I wanted to focus on, and then spent the last ten weeks learning about data visualization and timelines. I went through about six different designs for this and landed up in a totally opposite direction than I thought I would, if you take a look at my mood boards, but it happens.
This is an animated demo of what the timeline might be like as an iPad application - besides this, I’ve got a fully wireframed version with all six eras and a massive content map, but that’s not as fun to look at.
All of the illustrations were done in Illustrator, the timelines designed in Photoshop, and the demo animated in After Effects. Images and text are from Wikipedia and music is by Kevin Macleod.
