“The Memory Tree” is the last set in The Last Four Years, and is grounded fairly literally in the lyrics of the first verse of the song “A Dance ‘Round the Memory Tree” by Oren Lavie:
Lost memories
Grew in to trees
Covered the doors
Swallowed the keys
I’ve loved this song for a long time, and it’s often helped me get to sleep at night, so I thought it would be a special end for the whole series. Each of the twelve jars “growing” around the tree is based off of something I love or have strong memories around. There’s birds, butterflies, favorite quotes, favorite colors, a beach-theme jar, a button-themed jar, and a few more. There’s tiny clocks hanging throughout the tree, too.
Yekaterina, Morgan, and Isar’s costumes and makeup are based around three of my favorite birds (it was hard to pick, there’s kind of a lot) - a lilac-breasted roller, a pin-tailed whydah, and a nicobar pigeon, respectively.
